Former Pro Bowl Bears guard upset he didn’t get to block for Justin Fields

All of Chicago is enamored with Justin Fields, including former Pro Bowl guard Kyle Long, who wishes he had the chance to play alongside Fields.

Throughout the season, Chicago Bears players have praised Justin Fields for the way in which he’s rallied his teammates.

“I think that’s a guy we all respect,” said rookie Jaylon Jones. “His aura is contagious, you can tell he’s a winner. He wants to do anything that he can to help this team win by any means. A guy like that you’re always going to respect and want to go to war with.”

“Justin’s a fighter, a winner, a leader,” said Eddie Jackson. “He really takes this thing serious in how he prepares, how he works, and how he plays the game. He takes it serious. That’s just things we already knew about him though.”

But Justin hasn’t just impressed his teammates — he’s also impressed former Bears players as well. Former Pro Bowl Bears guard Kyle Long admitted that he’s upset he wasn’t able to stay in the game and block for Justin Fields.

Kyle Long wishes he could have stayed with Bears and blocked for Justin Fields

The 34-year-old former guard played with the Bears from 2013 through 2020, retiring before he unretired and signed with the Chiefs in 2021. Injured once again, Long was unable to play a single snap for the Chiefs, and as of now, is no longer playing for an NFL team.

It’s not difficult to imagine why Long would be upset seeing a quarterback like Fields and being unable to contribute to the team. During Long’s time with the Bears, he primarily blocked for Jay Cutler and Mitch Trubisky, two of the latest quarterback mistakes the Bears have seen in recent years.

It’s hard for any Chicago fan to see the Bears suffer in light of Fields’ latest heroics, knowing the team could have won many games if Fields had a little more help. In that way, Kyle Long is like the rest of Chicago watching Justin Fields carry the Bears.
