The Packers aren’t going to the playoffs but there’s optimism in Green Bay. Here are three guys already in the building who can be much better in 2023.

2022 will go down as a lost season for the Packers and Aaron Rodgers but that doesn’t mean the future is not bright for Matt LaFleur’s team. Green Bay has several players on the current roster who can take big steps forward in the offseason to get the organization back into the postseason next year.

Offseason headlines in Green Bay will be understandably dominated by what the front office can do to retain Aaron Rodgers. Those stories will likely be followed up by what the Packers need to do to surround their Hall-of-Fame signal caller with a roster capable of getting him to another Super Bowl.

Shrewd acquisitions will be required by GM Brian Gutekunst and his staff but they can count on some serious internal roster improvement too. One under-the-radar rookie can give his team a big boost by taking a solid step forward prior to his sophomore campaign.

3. Zach Tom

The Packers didn’t draft Tom to fill a starting role as a rookie but he ended up absorbing a lot of snaps while David Bakhtiari missed time due to injury. The former Wake Forest standout held up nicely as a solid starter during the All-Pro veteran’s absence.

Tom’s versatility gives him a chance to be a quality option at either tackle or guard for Green Bay next year. That means he may not enter next year as a projected starter. There’s still a strong possibility that he’ll fill in enough to play a starter’s quantity of snaps.

Tom doesn’t need to be a star to help this team elevate their offensive performance. If he solidifies the few holes in his game he’ll help Green Bay get back to the postseason in 2023.
