Eagles got absolutely hosed by refs with absurd holding call (Video)
The Philadelphia Eagles were in a surprise dogfight with the Saints in Week 17 but the refs were doing them no favors with some ridiculous calls.
The fans who once threw snowballs at Santa Claus weren’t getting any Christmas gifts from the refs to start 2023.
On Sunday in Week 17 with Gardner Minshew starting for the second straight game as the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback with Jalen Hurts injured, the club found itself in a surprisingly tough matchup with a struggling New Orleans Saints team. Andy Dalton and Co. jumped out to a 13-0 lead and Philly was trying to claw its way back into the game.
Early in the third quarter, they looked like they had a play to help them with that in a big way. Running back Kenneth Gainwell busted through a hole and took it to the house for what looked like a 28-yard touchdown. That was until they saw the yellow laundry on the field. And then got word about an awful call.
Eagles get screwed by refs on ridiculous holding call vs Saints
Eagles center Landon Dickerson was flagged for holding on the touchdown run, but the replay showed that it was much less a hold and much more a dominant rep in which the Alabama product pancaked his man and drove him into the turf.
That’s one of the worst calls you’ll see all year, even worse than a ton of the horrendous roughing the passer penalties that have been called recently. How is Dickerson supposed to block better than that as he cleanly just drove the defender into the turf?
Even worse, the penalty turned out to be costly as the Eagles then had to settle for a field goal, which credit to Jake Elliott for knocking the 56-yarder through the uprights. But that should’ve been six points for Philadelphia.
