Former Patriots Super Bowl champ comes to defense of Mac Jones after Boomer Esiason attack
While Patriots QB Mac Jones has been under fire for dirty play in recent weeks, Boomer Esiason doesn’t like his…body language?
Mac Jones has been through a lot this year, and it doesn’t help that Matt Patricia is his offensive coordinator. Jones has taken a major step back from his rookie campaign, in which now-Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels was the OC.
Jones has looked downright befuddled at times, struggling to go through his progressions. It doesn’t help that he missed a few games due to injury, but being outplayed by some guy named Bailey Zappe wasn’t in the cards for this season.
The Alabama product was fined recently for a dirty play on Bengals DB Eli Apple. That fine was paid, but Boomer Esiason doesn’t forget. Rather than call out Jones for the pattern of questionable behavior, Esiason took aim at the Pats quarterback’s body language.
“Here’s the thing that I really dislike about Mac Jones if you want to get to the root of it. His body language, his facial expressions, his gyrations on the field — p*** me off. There’s a douchiness to them. I don’t know how else to explain it,” Esiason said.
That’s…odd.
Patriots: Christian Fauria defends Mac Jones
Esiason appears to have a real disdain for Jones, all because he’s a little upset with his offense. Sure, he could be better, but he’s also in his second year. Cut the kid a break.
Former Patriots tight end Christian Fauria, who co-hosts a radio show in the area, came to Jones defense.
Fauria suggests that the coaching staff deserves some blame, rather than just Jones. As a second-year pro, Jones only has so much control over the offense, and the Patriots’ struggles. Patricia, however, failed as a head coach and is now failing in whatever level of empowerment Bill Belichick has given him.
It’s just not working in New England.
