OU's Robertson ties D-I women's career 3s mark
Oklahoma Sooners guard Taylor Robertson tied the Division I women’s basketball record for 3-pointers as she made two treys Wednesday in the Sooners’ 78-58 loss to the Texas Longhorns in Austin. She now has 497, which matches the mark Ohio State Buckeyes star Kelsey Mitchell set from 2014 to 2018.
Robertson is a fifth-year senior who is taking advantage of the extra season offered by the COVID-19 waiver from 2020-2021. However, Robertson reached the record in fewer games than Mitchell: 137 to 139.
She also got the career mark in fewer attempts: 1,133 to Mitchell’s 1,286. Mitchell was the No. 2 pick by the Indiana Fever in the 2018 WNBA draft and has made 347 3’s thus far in her five WNBA seasons.
Robertson has a chance to break the record Saturday in Ames, Iowa, where the Sooners face the Iowa State Cyclones (4 p.m. ET, ESPN App). She has made at least one 3-pointer in 61 consecutive games. Oklahoma, Iowa State and Texas are tied atop the Big 12 at 6-2.
The record-tying basket was the 51st 3-pointer this season for the 6-foot Robertson, who is shooting 43.9% from behind the arc in her Oklahoma career. She has never finished a season with the Sooners shooting less than 40% from 3-point range, including 41.8% this season.
The only season she had fewer than 100 3-pointers was in 2020-2021, when the Sooners played just 24 games.
