New York Mets have so much money they’re running a Super Bowl commercial

The New York Mets are pulling the ultimate sports crossover during Super Bowl LVII, running an ad for the upcoming baseball season.

Leave it to Mets owner Steve Cohen to find a way to keep the spotlight on his franchise, even when the biggest game of the NFL season will be unfolding.

After an offseason of historic spending to put his Mets in a position to win the National League East and much more, Cohen will continue the spending spree with an ad focused on the Mets shown to the New York market during the Super Bowl on Feb. 12.

What could the New York Mets be advertising during the Super Bowl?

The Mets have even put out their own teaser about the ad on Twitter, leading plenty of people to guess exactly what the message will be during the Super Bowl.

Considering the scene is set in the Mets ticket office, it’s no surprise that the Mets have a link to this page where fans can sign up for what they’re calling “the big game offer.” It’s another catchy way that the Mets can entice fans to make their way to Citi Field this spring and summer to see new additions such as Justin Verlander and Kodai Senga as well as high-priced returning players such as Brandon Nimmo and Edwin Díaz.

The Mets already profited in a big way earlier this season when they sold more than $1 million of tickets in a single day after it was announced that All-Star free agent Carlos Correa was heading to Queens. However, Correa’s offseason saga ended with him heading to the Minnesota Twins, perhaps dampening a bit of enthusiasm about the upcoming season and what would have been an absolutely stacked lineup with Correa included.

For years, catchy and expensive Super Bowl ads have been a tradition as companies pull out all of the stops to be creative and grab the attention of viewers. This year, the Mets will join the fray, proving once again that Cohen is willing to spend to make this season a success at Citi Field.
