How are professional bettors wagering on 2023 Super Bowl?
We’re just a few days away from Super Bowl 57, and waves of people continue to place their bets.
When it comes to professional bettors, those who make a living on their winnings, most of already placed their wagers. To find out how professional bettors are betting on the big game, all you have to do is follow the money.
Market making sportsbooks don’t set the generally set their lines based on where bettors who they deem as “sharp” place their bets. So seeing where the lines moved in the hours after they opened is the best way to determine who the sharps are backing.
Let’s take a look.
Super Bowl 57 latest odds and line movement
The spread for the game has settled at 1.5 in favor of the Eagles, but that’s not where it opened. Most books opened the game at -2 or -2.5 in favor of the Chiefs. Sharp bettors quickly laid down big bets and drove that number all the way to -2.5 in favor of the Eagles.
Jeffrey Benson, the sportsbook operator at Circa Sports in Vegas, shared on Twitter just how quickly the line moved the night they opened after the Chiefs locked up their Super Bowl berth.
Within 30 minutes, the line completely flipped.
Since then, there has been some buy back on the Chiefs by prop bettors, which has caused the line to now settle at around 1.5-points.
In terms of the total, there has also been some sharp money coming in on the OVER. It originally opened at 49 or 49.5, depending on the book, but has now settled at around 50.5 at most spots.
Remember, it’s important to note that this doesn’t mean ALL bettors are on the Eagles and the OVER, but enough of them were early on to then move the lines from where they opened.
Needless to say, sportsbooks will be cheering for a Chiefs cover and an UNDER to hit on Super Bowl Sunday.
