Patrick Mahomes gives hilarious response to chasing Tom Brady

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a funny response when asked about chasing Tom Brady in the Super Bowl.

Weeks after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were eliminated in the Wild Card Round, quarterback Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL for the second time, but saying this time it was “for good.” With this announcement, Brady ends his career as the most successful quarterback in the NFL, notably winning seven Super Bowls. Considering that, fans await to see who could even come close to reaching that win total in the big game.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked about chasing Brady on Thursday. Mahomes joked that he has a long way to go to reach that and to get back to him when he’s 38-years-old. The quote comes courtesy of the MMQB’s Albert Breer.

Patrick Mahomes says he’s a ‘long ways away’ from chasing Tom Brady

Mahomes is heading into Super Bowl 57 as a 27-year-old starting quarterback. So, we have 11 more years before those can ask him about his quest to chase Brady.

Brady won seven Super Bowl titles and five Super Bowl MVP awards in 10 appearances. Six of those victories happened during his 20-year tenure with the New England Patriots. Ironically, his final ring came after the Buccaneers beat Mahomes and the Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl 55 back in the 2020 season. That was the game in which the Buccaneers’ defense got through Kansas City’s banged-up offensive line and pressured Mahomes constantly.

Mahomes is on his third trip to the big game. In his very first appearance, Mahomes and the Chiefs overcame a 20-10 deficit to the San Francisco 49ers to pick up the 31-20 victory. Mahomes won the Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 286 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while completing 26-of-42 pass attempts.

This time around, the Chiefs face of against a Philadelphia Eagles team that has a tough defense and a difference maker at quarterback in Jalen Hurts. After Sunday, Feb. 12, we’ll see if Mahomes pulls closer to Brady with his second Super Bowl title, or if he will fall to 1-2 in the big game.
