Justin Jefferson reveals his mindset before absurd catch vs Bills

Justin Jefferson is on a go route early in his NFL career to be one of the best NFL wide receivers.

During Super Bowl week, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson made the rounds at radio row. On behalf of Sleep Number, Jefferson spoke with Matt Verderame, Patrick Allen, and FanSided’s STacking the Box Podcast for a few minutes.

Jefferson revealed what his least-favorite route is to run, what he thinks about wide receivers never having won MVP, and more.

Perhaps most importantly, he talked about the catch against the Bills.

Justin Jefferson talks about incredible catch vs Bills

You can’t interview Justin Jefferson right now without asking about that catch. Jefferson pulled in a ridiculous grab against the Buffalo Bills on a 4th-and-18, a play that came after the two-minute warning and led to the Vikings eventually taking down the Bills 33-30.

Jefferson went up for the heave throw with one arm and came down with the ball, despite several Bills being in the area. The catch of the year, and potentially the decade.

Here’s what Jefferson told FanSided’s Matt Verderame when he asked about his thoughts going up for the grab:

“[Whatever it takes to come down with the ball] definitely was the mindset being fourth-and-18, two-minute warning just had hit so we’re talking about the play and everything. He was like, alright, it’s 4th-and-18, we ain’t got much to call, you know there’s not much you can look at on a playsheet and call so we’re just going to have to throw this up to you. I’m like OK, cool. Two-minute warning I’m still thinking about it, I’m like OK, I gotta go get it. This is, either me, we’re going to get the first down or we lose this game.”

“I was like, this ball is mine, I gotta go get it… God was definitely with me on that play to control the ball all the way to the ground.”

Best catch he’s made in game? Jefferson says yes.
