Aaron Rodgers rumors: Latest update on darkness retreat will frustrate everyone

Despite reports that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was going on his darkness retreat on Monday, that isn’t actually the case.

With the NFL offseason underway, all eyes are going to be on the quarterback market. The name that is at the top of the list is Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has a decision to make for next season. Does he want to play with the Packers? Does he want to play somewhere else? Or does he want to retire? That will all come after he returns from his four-day darkness retreat, in which he’ll be isolated in a dark room without electricity.

Various reports indicated that Rodgers was entering his four-day darkness retreat on Monday. However, Pat McAfee refuted the report, announcing that the four-time NFL MVP quarterback will be making his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday. So, he has not begun his darkness retreat on Monday.

Aaron Rodgers not entering darkness retreat just yet

This will be a frustrating update for those who want to find out what Rodgers wants to do. Whether that’s fans of the Packers of those in the fanbase of potential landing spots like the New York Jets or Las Vegas Raiders.

Rodgers signed a three-year, $150.8 million contract extension with the Packers, and is set to account for $31.6 million against the cap. The team, meanwhile, is currently $17.6 million over the salary cap threshold in 2023, per Spotrac. Not to mention that the team has to decide if they want to exercise quarterback Jordan Love’s fifth-year option. But, that all depends on what Rodgers wants to do.

NBC Sports’ Peter King wrote in his Football Morning in America column that he brought up Rodgers’ darkness retreat to “a few league or team people” and the consensus that he had gotten was the following:

“I can see why the Packers would consider trading him. Seems like a good person, but he might be more trouble than he’s worth.”

There may be some more clarity provided by Rodgers during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show as to when he will be entering his darkness retreat. Whenver that is, the NFL world will be waiting for it to conclude and to see if he has made a decision regarding his status for the 2023 sesaon.
