Patrick Mahomes defends Eric Bieniemy after harsh criticism from former Chiefs player

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy took the same position with the Washington Commanders. After Bieniemy received criticism from LeSean McCoy, Patrick Mahomes came to his defense.

Eric Bieniemy took what initially looked to be a lateral position with the Washington Commanders to get out from under Andy Reid’s shadow. However, upon further review, Bieniemy received a multi-year deal, will call plays and now has the title of assistant head coach to Ron Rivera.

If ever there was a stepping stone job to a head coaching gig, this is it.

That hasn’t stopped one former Chief, running back LeSean McCoy, from calling Bieniemy out.

It should be no surprise that this take did not work out well for Shady McCoy, as Bieniemy is an accomplished offensive coordinator and just won his second Super Bowl.

Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes defends Eric Bieniemy

Eric Bieniemy handled the criticism with class, saying that McCoy is a future Hall of Famer and entitled to his opinion.

However, Patrick Mahomes was not as kind. Mahomes took to social media to defend his former offensive coordinator. While he didn’t address McCoy by name, it was clear he disagreed with Shady’s assessment of Bieniemy as an offensive mind.

“There should be no questions on how great of a man/coach Coach Bienemy is. His leadership has a direct impact on the player/person i am today! 10+ years learning under one of the greatest coaches of all time.. and i cannot wait for him to continue to prove doubters wrong!” Mahomes tweeted.

Mahomes and Bieniemy disagreed at times, and even clashed on the sidelines once. However, Mahomes never stopped respect Bieniemy, and the two often collaborated on winning gameplans. It’s the sign of a positive relationship, and one that continues to pay dividends for Mahomes.
