Eagles have to replace yet another key assistant coach this offseason

The Philadelphia Eagles have already seen several departures from the staff that got them into the Super Bowl. Now another assistant is on the move.

Nick Sirianni did an outstanding job in his second year as the head coach of the Philadephia Eagles. Most NFL head coaches never make it to the Super Bowl, let alone get there so quickly. He got there but he still needs to take the next step to get back and then win it.

The job may be a bit more difficult in 2023 because Sirianni’s coaching staff has experienced so much turnover.

On Sunday, Ian Rapoport revealed the impending departure of another assistant, reporting that passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson and the Eagles are “mutually parting ways.”

Wilson was in the running to take over as defensive coordinator but Seahawks defensive assistant Sean Desai got the gig instead.

Eagles staff transforms again with Dennard Wilson’s departure

By passing over an in-house candidate, Sirianni opened the door for Wilson to seek opportunities elsewhere. Now, on top of figuring out his team’s draft needs, the head coach needs to replace his DBs coach along with the other big names who have left this offseason.

The Eagles lost DC Jonathan Gannon to the head coaching gig with the Cardinals. He brought linebackers coach Nick Rallis with him to run his defense.

Offensive coordinator Shane Steichen also picked up a promotion taking over as head coach for the Colts. He was replaced in-house by quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson.

So Philadelphia’s staff is going to be significantly changed from what it was this past season with so many new faces and familiar faces in new roles.

Wilson joined the Eagles as DBs coach in 2021. He took on the passing game coordinator title in 2022. Before Philadelphia, he served in the same roles for the Jets. He started his coaching career with the Rams after working as a scout for the Bears.
