NFL Rumors: Aaron Rodgers delay, Chiefs upgrade, Saints surprise
NFL rumors: As much as the NFL world wants to move on from Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers may not agree to a trade anytime soon.
While the initial delay in trade talks appeared to be Aaron Rodgers himself, that’s no longer the case. The Packers are content to wait on a Rodgers trade until the Jets give into their demands.
Per Pro Football Talk, Rodgers has a manageable cap number — a $58 million option that can be picked up anytime between now and Week 1 — so there isn’t much of a rush to deal him. Sure, that’s a large amount of money against the salary cap, but it’s unlikely Rodgers remains in Green Bay either way. Why rush it, when the Packers can force the Jets to give in to their asking price?
On Rodgers end, he has already tried to recruit several free agents to New York. Allen Lazard agreed to sign with the Jets on Tuesday. Randall Cobb is in the mix, and Rodgers has made it known that he wants Odell Beckham Jr. back in New York as well — but with the Jets this time.
His wish list may seem like a lot, but this is the first time in Rodgers career that he has all the power. With Tom Brady gone, Rodgers can recruit almost whoever he wants without much competition. He’s not wrong to take advantage of that fact.
