Seahawks make things right by reuniting with fan-favorite

One year after releasing him from his contract, the Seattle Seahawks are bringing back fan-favorite linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Prior to the 2022 season, the Seattle Seahawks made the decision to release long-time linebacker and fan-favorite Bobby Wagner from his contract. That then allowed Wagner to sign on with the rival Los Angeles Rams, who were coming off of a Super Bowl 56 victory. But, after a one-year stint with the Rams, Wagner is heading back to the team that drafted him back in 2012.

According to Seahawks linebacker Quandre Diggs, the team and Wagner agreed to terms on contract. The Score NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the deal was for one-year, and worth $7 million.

Bobby Wagner returning to Seahawks one year after release

The Seahawks used their second-round pick on Wagner, a linebacker out of Utah State, back in 2012. Sure enough, Wagner became not just one of the best linebackers in Seahawks history, but one of the best in the entire NFL in recent memory.

Wagner made the All-Pro First team six times (2014, 2016-20), the All-Pro Second team twice (2015, 2021), was named to the Pro Bowl eight consecutive seasons (2014-21), led the league in tackles twice (2016, 2019), and was part of the Super Bowl 48-winning team in the 2013 season.

But after 10 years with the team, Wagner found out that he was being released from his contract ahead of the 2022 season. That is when he joined the Rams on a five-year, $50 million contract, where the expectation was that they would contend for another Super Bowl title. Instead, the team fell to a 5-12 record and failed to make the playoffs. Wagner was released after the season.

This past season with the Rams, Wagner recorded 140 combined tackles (81 solo, 59 assisted), 10 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits, six sacks, five passes defended, and two interceptions.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks shocked the NFL world, making the playoffs with a 9-8 record, when they were expected to be among the worst teams in the league this past season. Now, they are adding to their roster, and have two first-round picks to their disposal to further help their odds of contending in the NFC, which presents itself as an easy path to the Super Bowl.

After a one-year split, the Seahawks and Wagner have reunited, and it has to feel good for the fanbase.
