NFL rumors: Latest Odell Beckham Jr. visit likely carries huge caveat
Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. attended the league meetings to talk with teams, but one he recently visited carries a big caveat.
The NFL isn’t even a month into the new league year, and a majority of the top free agents have all signed their contracts with either their new teams or with a new organization. When it comes to the wide receiver free agency class, it wasn’t exactly stacked, but there is one name that remains on the open market, and it’s Odell Beckham Jr.
At the NFL league meetings in Phoenix, Ariz., Beckham stopped by the Biltmore Hotel and was photographed speaking to a variety of coaches and executives, such as Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas of the New York Jets, Ron Rivera of the Washington Commanders, and Les Snead of the Los Angeles Rams.
CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson noted that the Baltimore Ravens were one of the teams that met with Beckham.
While Beckham is going to be a big addition to a team, as Anderson states in her tweet, there is one glaring question for the Ravens — who will be their quarterback?
Ravens meet with Odell Beckham Jr., but who will be their quarterback?
The Ravens are currently in a conundrum with Lamar Jackson. The 2019 NFL MVP is seeking a new contract, reportedly fully guaranteed. Baltimore decided to place the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, which would allow him to speak with teams regarding a contract. If a team were to sign Jackson to an offer sheet, the Ravens would either match it or collect two first-round picks over the next two NFL Drafts from the team in question.
There is one issue — teams who were in need of a quarterback bowed out of the running relatively quickly. The Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins, and Commanders rather quickly said they were not interested in pursuing him.
Things only got more interesting when Jackson tweeted out on Monday that he requested a trade from the Ravens on March 2. This tweet just so happened to drop after Ravens head coach John Harbaugh sat down at the league meetings to speak with the media.
During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio floated the possibility that Jackson could hold out for the season if he doesn’t get a new deal from the Ravens.
There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the quarterback position in Baltimore. While Beckham would be a great get for the Ravens, fans will be wondering who will be throwing passes his way in 2023 if he is to sign with the AFC North team.
