Indonesian woman acts dead on Facebook to avoid $268 loan
(Web Desk) – Liza Dewi Pramita, an Indonesian woman, allegedly acted dead on Facebook to evade a debt of $268 after she failed to meet two deadlines to repay the loan.
She had asked Maya Gunawan to lend her a sum of INDR4.2 million ($268) in a popular lottery group Arisan. Arisan is akin to ‘committee system’ in Pakistan wherein people put up small amounts of money every month and a member gets all the money at the month’s end. Liza met Gunawan in person and requested to lend her money. Gunawa, after getting a report from other members of the group, agreed to pay while setting a repay deadline of November 20.
However, when Gunawan aksed Liza to pony up on November 20, Liza cited problems in repaying the money resulting in a new deadline of Dec 6. But Liza could not meet it either and even started ignoring Gunawan’s messages. Then, on Dec 11, Gunawan was shocked to learn that Liza had died. So, she put the debt out of her mind.
But when Liza’s son announced her funeral at a faraway place, it helped raise Gunawan’s eyebrows. She started searching on the internet to find that the photos were fake and Liza had not died. Upon confronting the boy over photos, the boy admitted to her fake death but still Gunawan is unable to find Liza.
