Fins to waive Barrett; LB can play if unclaimed

The Dolphins are waiving former Pro Bowl edge rusher Shaq Barrett from the reserve/retired list Thursday, his agent told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Barrett, 32, can play again this season if he clears waivers Friday. If another team claims him, then Barrett would be ineligible to play the rest of this season.

“We appreciate the Dolphins giving Shaq this opportunity to continue his career in the NFL,” agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN. “Hopefully he will pass through waivers and become a free agent so he can play again this season. He is in great shape and would be ready to play immediately.”

Barrett announced his retirement in July, four months after signing a one-year, $9 million deal with the Dolphins.

He had a change of heart and applied for reinstatement on Nov. 26, but Miami did not activate him from the retired list.
